Machinists

Machinists at ForseMark are skilled professionals responsible for setting up and operating
machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. They play a critical role in the
manufacturing process, ensuring the accuracy and quality of machined components that are
essential to the company's operations.


Typical Duties

  • Study blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand the requirements for machined parts.
  • Select the appropriate materials, tools, and machine settings for the job at hand.
  • Set up and configure machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC machines.
  • Load raw materials into the machine, secure them in place, and adjust machine settings to achieve precise measurements.
  • Operate machine tools to cut, shape, and finish parts according to specifications.
  • Monitor the machining process, checking for accuracy, smoothness, and proper functioning of the machine.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure parts meet tolerance requirements.
  • Make adjustments to machine settings as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Inspect finished parts for defects, ensuring they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain and clean machines, tools, and work areas to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Troubleshoot machine malfunctions, identify issues, and perform basic repairs as necessary.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members to optimize production processes and solve manufacturing challenges.

Experience and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a vocational or technical program in machining is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Machinist, with a strong understanding of machining techniques and practices.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of different types of machine tools, their functions, and operation methods.
  • Ability to set up and operate manual and computer-controlled (CNC) machines.
  • Experience with a variety of materials such as metals, plastics, and composites.
  • Skill in using precision measuring tools and instruments to ensure accurate results.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, precise parts.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, and operate machinery.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and make adjustments on the fly.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices in a manufacturing environment.
